Home Staging Tips That Help Your Home Sell Fast
When you’re in the process of selling your home, you want it to look its absolute best for the potential buyers who walk through the door. That’s where home staging comes in.
Home staging is a tried and true method of decorating your space with the intention to highlight your home’s most impressive features and help buyers imagine themselves actually living there. When done right, and working with a professional real estate agent, you should have no problem selling your home quickly.
Below are some tips for you to follow and changes to make so you can sell your home faster and for more money.
Curb Appeal Matters
As soon as a potential buyer pulls up to your home, you’ll want to make sure they have a great first impression. Stand outside, scan your property, and look for any eyesores. Some suggestions: pressure wash to remove any grime and dirt, paint your front door a fresh new color that coordinates with the rest of the home, replace any worn down numbers on your mailbox or house, and purchase a new welcome mat. Make sure your lawn is mowed and even place a couple of planters on your porch. If you have the time to do it yourself, some of these upgrades will cost more in elbow grease than dollars. Or, if you have the means, hire a pro to do it for you.
Clean up the kitchen
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, so make sure this part of your house is ready for potential buyers to see it. Upgrades don’t have to be expensive; some can include touching up outdated cabinets with some paint or try swapping out any rusty hardware for something more modern. At the least, make sure you clear off the countertops of any clutter to show off your storage. However, you don’t want it completely bare. Add a fruit bowl or a vase of flowers to give it a less empty feel.
Think About Furniture
Many people are under the impression that pushing all the furniture against the walls helps the room look bigger, but that isn’t always the case. Try to furnish your space by floating sofas and chairs away from the walls. Not only will this make the space more user-friendly, but it will open up the room and make it seem larger. Also, having a few key pieces in each room will help a potential buyer visualize their furniture in that room.
Don’t Make It Personal
Potential buyers need to be able to visualize themselves in your home. Having all of your personal items on display, such as family photos or your children’s artwork, makes this hard to do. Remember to pack these items to take to your new home and replace empty spaces (if needed) with generic artwork and home decor.
Let Your Storage Shine
A home’s storage (or lack thereof) is a notable factor in a buyer’s decision-making process. Show off yours by organizing and de-cluttering closets and cabinets throughout your home. When buyers peek inside, they won’t be thrown off by the overstuffed linen closet and will be pleased to see the extra space.
Make it Smell Nice
Let’s face it, we often don’t notice the subtle odors in our home that can come from things like our pets, gym clothes, etc. However, other people can. A nice smell in your home can have an instant effect on the way potential buyers feel and think about your home. Place a diffuser or plugin near the entryway, a scented candle in the kitchen, or even fragrant flowers in the living room.
